ITS HAPPENING!

We are starting our trip in 3 days! It has been a crazy year of planning and we are both ready to finally start. This last month we have been living in Bellingham, WA doing all the last preparations. The most stressful part recently has been the resupply packages, but today we figured out that sending them to hostels and campgrounds solves all our problems!

Our worries stemmed from the policy that Canadian post offices have that they will only hold packages for 15 days. These packages will be sent from friends and/or family, go through customs, and then reach the post office. Since our trip is so weather dependent, we aren't sure exactly when the package will arrive OR when we will be able to pick it up. The fact that all we had was a 15 day window to get our packages was pretty scary. However, thanks to some advice given to us by Susan Conrad, we tried calling campgrounds and hostels along the way and all of them said they would hold a package for us! This means tomorrow we are driving up to Canada to send our packages and avoiding sending our package through customs. It also saves us about $30 per package. Woohooo!

As much as the packages have been stressful, they also have been very fun to figure out. Each resupply box has anywhere from 5-12 days of food in it. Casey and I enjoy preparing delicious food instead of eating already prepared meals where you just add hot water. We have the ingredients to make calzones, bakes, quinoa, spaghetti, and more. We enjoy the power to control what you eat, especially on long bad weather days. We found that the Winco here in Bellingham has an amazing bulk food section and we were able to get most of our provisions without excess packaging. I’m not sure the cashier was too fond of us though.

Other than that, we are enjoying our days here in Bellingham. Spending time with Casey’s family and calling mine constantly. I even had a milkshake today! We are looking forward to the routine we will soon be in and getting away from all the temptations we have in todays world.

We will post when we can during the trip. If you are interested in checking in while we are gone, send us a text! We will have phone service most of the first leg. We are so excited and hope we can give you a glimpse of the trip while we are on it!
